And mrs. Mantout in 1986, french residents in casablanca and friend of the el glaoui family since 1958 *son of the pasha of marrakech, hassan el glaoui is one of the pioneers of modern painting from his country. Lulled from an early age in a world made of ancestral traditions, young hassan escapes from this life predefined by drawing and painting. He cultivated his taste for the arts in secret, for fear of family judgment, until the british prime minister, winston churchill, as well as the american general goodyear, founder of the museum of modern art in new york – both close du pacha - discovered his works and encouraged him to continue on this path. Hassan el glaoui was then sent to france at the end of the 1940s and stayed there for around fifteen years. There he attended the classes of jean souverbie, at the ecole des beaux-arts in paris, as well as the studio of the painter emilie charmy. His first personal exhibition took place in 1950 in paris, followed by that of new york in 1952. In 1965, he returned to morocco permanently. His most emblematic works represent horses and riders, in full cavalcade, particularly during fantasias. The horse is a passion for el glaoui, whose anatomy and movement he masters. Furthermore, the role and function of his father made him a privileged witness to the public life of the court, and in particular of the king, of whom he represented certain public outings.
