Rare solid bronze chess set by christoforus sklavenitis, a greek artist from crete, active in the 1960s. A student of modigliani, sklavenitis is renowned for his works inspired by ancient greek culture, combining sculpture, ceramics, and objets d'art. The pieces, hand-cast using the lost-wax technique, are inspired by the minoan civilization. Each figurine embodies a stylized character, with one side in natural bronze, the other painted black (wear visible in places). The pieces measure up to 11 cm high. The board, made of wood inlaid with oriental geometric patterns, measures 51 X 51 cm when open. It closes to form an elegant storage box. The set is complete and in very good vintage condition, with a beautiful patina. A rare object, somewhere between a work of art and a strategy game, ideal as a decorative piece or for the discerning collector.
