Pair of oils on panel signed Pierre-Cénon Trigo (1850-1914). This Spanish portrait painter is renowned for being, through his works, the memory of the Nantes region of the late 19th century. We owe him all the trades of old Nantes that have now disappeared. One of the paintings shows Joseph-Antoine Palemone, better known as Father Zim-Zim, a popular street artist playing the hurdy-gurdy. The second portrait shows Louis-Dominique Dolgéard, known as Gobe la Lune, a cripple and a vagabond, he is alternately a singer with a golden voice or a lottery ticket seller. Trigo paints this curious character leaning on his cane, his body thin and his beard shaggy. This pair of watercolors will appeal to lovers of the history of Nantes and more generally to lovers of popular art. Dimensions: 33*24 cm. Careful and fast shipping possible.
