Art Deco earthenware greyhound statue by Charles Lemanceau

Date: ca. 1930. This impressive statue of a seated greyhound is made of a slightly cracked cream-colored earthenware. While the head is highly stylized with little detail, the body emphasizes the dog's musculature and anatomy. This emphasis on movement, or the potential for, is typical of the art deco style. The base bears the signature of the artist "lemanceau" (charles lemanceau: 1905-1980) and there is an original sticker from the saint clément pottery for which this piece was created. Status: good.
