In its original condition, with some missing parts, wear and traces of time (see photos) Height: 115 cm / width: 88 cm. Very decorative, these old charts are true works of art, enhanced by their old patina and the marks of time. Deyrolle and the educational charts: Created in 1831, the Deyrolle house has been located since 1888 in the 17th century mansion at 46 rue du Bac, in Paris. It was previously located at 23 rue de la Monnaie. It offers nature enthusiasts collections of insects and shells, all kinds of stuffed animals, natural curiosities, and educational materials for teaching natural sciences. In 1866, Emile Deyrolle took over the Deyrolle company, founded in 1831 by his grandfather. Deyrolle then experienced a new boom thanks to the creation of educational charts that he created and marketed alongside the sale of insects and stuffed animals. Published under the name “Musée scolaire Deyrolle,” these illustrated wall charts were a great success. By 1870, the government had become Deyrolle's primary customer, supplying all French schools. These boards were intended for all classes, from primary to secondary school as well as university, and were intended to teach “object lessons”, botany, zoology, entomology, geography, anatomy, biology, etc. Emile Deyrolle said: “Education through the eyes is that which tires the intelligence the least, but this education can only have good results if the ideas which are engraved in the child’s mind are of rigorous accuracy.”
