Painting signed Béchon-Sauzeau, nude woman, oil on canvas, Art Deco, wall decoration, 1950s. Pierre BECHON-SAUZEAU (1924 - 2006), "Nude on a Red Sofa" Pierre Béchon displayed precocious talent from a young age. At 7, he exhibited at the Poitiers Oriental Salon, "aided and advised by Fernand Serreau, Director of the Municipal School of Fine Arts and Curator of the Museum." During the war, he studied painting and sculpture under the tutelage of Maurice Roger Rogerol, professor at the Fine Arts Schools of Lille and Douai, and a refugee in Montamisé. At the Poitiers high school, he successfully passed his baccalaureate, and in 1945, he "entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of the painter Eugène Narbonne; he then received the Lefranc Prize, the Chenavard Prize, and the Torso Prize." He also frequented the studio of the sculptor Séverac. "He created numerous sets for the Opera, the Lido, the Théâtre de la Madeleine, as well as for television and films by renowned directors such as Alain Resnais, Coline Serrault, and Roman Polanski. He was awarded the Madeleine Renaud-Jean-Louis Barrault Prize for his stage designs..." In 1956-57, under the direction of Jean Cocteau, he created the frescoes for the Chapel of St. Peter in Villefranche-sur-Mer and the murals for the wedding hall in Menton Town Hall.
