Period: ca. 1900-1910 this rocking footstool is typically art nouveau in style and is instantly reminiscent of thonet's bentwood furniture. It was probably originally caned but was already upholstered when I found it. I replaced the old textile with a black velvet. The wood is dark stained beech that has been bent using michael thonet's famous steam process, which he perfected to create his industrial scale furniture. This footstool looks very similar to the one in the 1904 thonet catalogue (#7002 called the flâneuse). Condition: reupholstered. There are two cracks in the fibres of the front curves (see photos) but these are superficial and not structural. Also a superficial crack in the footstool bar (this does not compromise the structural strength in use). Marks of use and scuffs consistent with age. Price reflects condition. Dimensions: 65 cm long, 37 cm wide, 34 cm high, 5 kg.
