Murano Sommerso centrepiece from the 1950s, attributed to the design of Flavio Poli, is an example of Italian decorative glass from post-war modernism. The vessel was handmade using the sommerso technique, which allows for a multi-layered colouring effect: from intense amber and red at the wavy, organic rim, to a honey-gold centre. Exceptionally thick glass with a shiny polished surface gives the whole a three-dimensional, sculptural character. The centrepiece attracts attention with its smooth colour transitions, and the asymmetrical form – with a slightly concave bottom and natural wear on the base – confirms the craftsmanship of Murano. The physical presence of the object is emphasised by the absence of damage, chips, and typical handmade air bubbles and subtle streaks, characteristic of old artistic glass. Condition: excellent; shows no signs of use, scratches or repairs. In this centrepiece, one can find the voice of Italian glass studios from the 1950s – a form that, like a wave of light, brings out the undying glow and dynamism of post-war optimism. The colour, gradually shifting from honey through amber to deep red, tells the story of the renaissance of Italian design – about a morning on the Venetian island of Murano, where the glass surface catches the last light reflections. It has energy, shimmer, and the noble simplicity of the craftsman's gesture, who captures light in the glass mass. The centrepiece would look good on a marble console or oak tabletop solo, where its dynamic form and saturated colours become the focal point of the interior. It can be paired with a table lamp with a golden finish or contrasted with mid-century matte ceramics, and also fit into an eclectic collection of vintage accents. It is worth placing it in a mid-century modern, modern or Italian modernism-styled space, where it will emphasise its artistic pedigree and sculptural form. Technical parameters of the product have not been provided. Hand cleaning with a soft cloth and avoiding sudden temperature changes is recommended, which is typical for Murano glass care.
