Pair of illuminated totems in lacquered steel, Italy, 1990

Italian work, 1990. H 270 X W 40 X D 20 cm. Lacquered steel. Good condition — sold as a pair. A column of stacked modules, alternately white and green, resting on a green base. Each module is an open box on one side that houses a bare bulb: the light emerges from the end, at five heights, and the column lights up like a series of points rather than a single source. The lacquered steel is treated in flat, bold colours. Totemic column, saturated colour, repeated module: this vocabulary is what Italian production disseminates after Memphis, in the decade following 1981. Good condition. The two totems are sold together.
