Savoyard wedding chest. These chests were used to hold the bride's trousseau, which included clothing, linens (sheets, tablecloths, napkins) and sometimes precious objects. The trousseau represented the personal possessions that the woman brought to her new home. The sculptures represented the social status of the family and were displayed in homes as prestigious objects. This chest is decorated with three fleurs-de-lis (a mixture of religious, cultural and aesthetic symbolism, reflecting the identity and values of the region at that time) and on each side traditional architectural motifs. (a motif found on the doors and windows of 18th century houses) Period: 18th century. Carved chest in Swiss pine (Alpine pine). The previous owners reinforced the back of the chest and the interior corners. (renovation not visible from the outside of the chest) Dimensions: h67 / l133 / p65.
