Philippe Starck Set of 5 Costes Dining Chairs for Driade Aleph Italy 1984

Set of 5 Costes dining chairs, designed by Philippe Starck in 1984 and manufactured by Driade Aleph Italy. The chairs are all marked with the original label on the frames. Originally the chairs were designed for the Parisian Cafe Costes. The chairs have a molded plywood with mahogany veneer backrest and a black lacquered tubular steel frame. The seat cushion is covered with black leather. The three legs were designed not only for aesthetic reasons, but also to prevent waiters in the busy cafe from tripping. The elegantly curved and sophisticated laminated backrest, which also serves as an armrest, gives the chair an aura of exclusivity. The chairs are in good original condition. Some normal traces of wear. Little wear on top of the armrests and a few tiny restaurations on top of the backrests. The leather is still good and original, no damages, no cracquels, just some normal traces of use.
