Visible fiberglass rocking chair in excellent condition. Rocking chair by Eames designed by Summits Plastics for Herman Miller. (U.S.A,, Kalamazoo, Michigan. 1953-late 1960's) Recent rocker leg. Designer: Charles and Ray Eames. Brand: Herman Miller. Colors: black. Material: Glass fiber, walnut, metal. Dimensions: L 62.5 cm x P 69 cm x H 67 cm (H seated: 42 cm). The Rocking Chair also called Armchair RAR (for Rocking Armchair Rod base) was created by the Eames in 1948 using fiberglass reinforced polyester resin to create a one-piece shell. This rocking chair was first presented in 1950 at the MoMa Low Cost Furniture Design competition in New York. It was a great success and was originally published by Herman Miller until the late 1970s. Alongside Herman Miller's US production, Vitra has been producing polypropylene models in Europe since 1972. The chair also exists in version with feet. There are two different legs: the DAR model (chrome aluminium base) and the DAW model (wooden feet).
