This charming Austrian mid-century lounge chair is one of the most popular designs by Roland Rainer. It was designed for Café Ritter in Vienna in 1952 and features a bright beechwood frame and new top-quality fabric upholstery in a very cosy grey boucle. The chair was manufactured by Emil and Alfred Pollak in Vienna, who also produced the world-famous Stadthallen chairs. The bright beech wood has been very slightly restored, so the chair is in excellent condition and ready for use. Roland Rainer (1910-2004) was an Austrian architect and professor. He taught at several European universities and was one of the most important architects in Austria. The "Wiener Stadthalle" (Vienna city hall) was one of his most significant works and was built from 1956 to 1962. The chairs (also known as "Stadthallensessel") for the city hall are very well-known and sought-after design objects.
