Exceptional and very rare middle donkey's hood desk forming a birthing table from the regence period attributed to bernard van riesen burgh (1696-1767) the set is composed of two parts. The lower part forms the support of the desk composed of four double-curved legs revealing a drawer in the front, the top veneered in rosewood; the legs finished with finely chiseled bronze sabots. The removable upper part in the shape of a donkey's back fitted into the base which was used to be placed in the bed of the nobility to write their correspondence. The donkey's back has a tilting writing desk revealing five curved drawers and a secret drawer hidden by a sliding shelf. Both of these pieces of furniture are in violet wood frieze from the period. Original keyholes and locks. This donkey-backed desk is said to have come from a very special order from the regency period. The furniture is in perfect condition and does not include any major restoration. Dimensions: 80 X 63.5 X 42.5 cm. Restorations due to use and maintenance.
