In the 1950s and 1960s, Robin Day experimented with molded wood. His work was then inspired by the Eames in the United States, but he would go on to develop his own vision of functional and durable furniture. Among his iconic creations, there are these thermoformed wooden chairs, which rest on a black lacquered tubular metal frame, decorated with a black leather cushion. These chairs embody his minimalist aesthetic: clean forms, comfort, lightness and solidity. These models were widely used in public spaces, offices and homes, helping to popularize modern British design. Despite his immense influence, Robin Day has long remained less famous than some of his contemporaries.
