Black writing bureau bookcase

This is a charming antique bureau bookcase which dates to the early 1900s. Made of oak and mixed woods it is solid and well made and ideal for an office or study. The bureau makes a nice alternative to a traditional desk and is a useful work space for any home, perfect for stowing away a laptop. The top is ideal for storing books and for displaying small treasures. The bureau is simply styled, the top fitted with a fall front which opens to reveal a fitted interior with pigeon holes for stationery and correspondence. The fall front is lockable and the key is present. Below the top section are two narrow drawers finished with ornate art deco style drop handles set on decorative back plates. The top section has glazed lockable doors which open to reveal three removable and adjustable shelves which sit on metal shelf supports. This piece is fairly narrow so ideal for an alcove or a room with limited space. I have hand painted the bureau bookcase in my own mix of black chalk based paint before distressing the paintwork for a gently aged look. The finish has been waxed for protection and has a nice mid sheen. Measurements. Height-198.5cms. Width-75cms. Depth-39cms. Condition. The bureau bookcase is in solid structural condition with various marks of age and use. There are various marks and dents to the wood below the painted finish and some old inactive wood worm holes to the back feet and the back of the top cabinet which we have treated as a precaution.
