Superb and authentic antique candlestick in gilded bronze in the Louis XV Rocaille (or Rococo) style, from the 19th century, circa 1880, with a twisted panel shaft and sinuous lines in motion, the dynamic base and the upper binet are richly decorated with motifs of scrolls, scrollwork, and acanthus leaves, typical of the Rocaille decorative repertoire. The shiny gilded patina, somewhat darkened by time, highlights the finesse of the chiselling details characteristic of French art bronze work. This classic model of candlestick is directly inspired by pieces of silverware created during the reign of Louis XV, which were very often successfully reissued throughout the 19th century.
