Vintage wall map in large format – Indian Ocean and Antarctic Continent. Rare and very beautiful vintage poster, published by Librairie Hatier, from the prestigious Jean-Brunhes Collection, designed by geographer Camille Vallaux. Authentic poster, printed in France between the 1940s and 1960s. A decorative and cultural object, at the intersection of scientific cartography, modernist aesthetics, and the poetry of travel, navigation, and geopolitics typical of the mid-20th century. This map has a strong visual presence, very compatible with a Haussmannian interior, loft, architect's office, bookstore, cabinet, etc. Palette of deep and nuanced colours (marine blues, ochres, greens) with rich graphic representation of currents, winds, and maritime routes. → Two AI-generated images illustrate the potential rendering in a coherent decoration (but oversized, thus not providing an accurate preview of the actual dimensions, for which the measurements below should be referred to). Camille Vallaux's general maps of the Oceans and Seas are now among the most sought-after French school maps, particularly in this laminated SERMAP version, which offers better visual quality and is much rarer than cardboard prints. Dimensions (large format) Width: 101.5 cm. Height: 120 cm. Old map with authentic patina, consistent: Localized yellowing and browning. Fragility around an eyelet. Hole in the upper right corner.
