Important wrought iron lamp with dragon decoration, Neo-Gothic style, Art Nouveau / Liberty, Italy, circa 1900. Attributed to Alessandro Mazzucotelli (1865–1938) Rare and spectacular blackened wrought iron lamp, featuring a sculptural composition of great expressive strength. The structure, entirely handcrafted, rises around a twisted shaft resting on a tripod base with elegantly curved lines. The upper part is adorned with 3 powerful dragons, with stylised bodies and outstretched wings, treated with remarkable mastery of volume and movement. These mythical figures, emblematic of the Symbolist aesthetic of the late 19th century, support a circular crown holding 3 light arms, reminiscent of torches, giving the whole a strong architectural and theatrical presence. In the centre, a 4th light. The work is fully in line with the Italian Liberty movement, at the crossroads of Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau, due to its taste for organic forms, the virtuosity of hammering, and the integration of decoration into the very structure of the object. Due to the exceptional quality of its execution and the power of its design, this lamp is attributed to Alessandro Mazzucotelli, an Italian master blacksmith, a major figure in European decorative ironwork around 1900, known for his monumental creations and sculptural approach to metal.
