Pair of early Artifort F905 armchairs – restored and reupholstered – 1964

Pair of early Artifort F905 armchairs, dating from the 1960s and fully restored and reupholstered in jet-black faux leather. • Original Artifort Design Group model from 1964 • Early edition with traditional upholstery construction • Professionally restored and completely reupholstered • Part of a matching suite with the original C905/3 three-seat sofa (check my adds for this one) When we speak of “traditional upholstery”, a modernist pair of armchairs like these is probably not what first comes to mind. Yet the early versions of the Artifort 905 series were still constructed using classic upholstery techniques. Beneath their clean, modern exterior lies a solid beechwood frame, a welded steel support grid and shaped layers of natural palm fibre and blue wool. These materials and techniques belong to a different generation of furniture making, creating a remarkably strong foundation that can be repaired and reupholstered. The original internal construction of both armchairs has been preserved. The seat and back cushions have been rebuilt using polyether foam and Dacron. Both chairs were then completely reupholstered in durable, jet-black faux leather. To me, the 905 represents a fascinating moment between the traditional furniture factory that Artifort once was and the modern, industrialised design brand it later became: a transition between two worlds. The armchairs are generous, comfortable and suitable for everyday use. They are offered exclusively as a pair. Condition Restored and newly reupholstered. The original internal construction has been retained wherever possible. Both armchairs are in excellent, ready-to-use condition.
