Alberto Sparapani was born in Casale Marittimo, in the province of Pisa, on May 14, 1911. He studied at the Volterra Art Institute under Giulio Caluri. In 1940, after settling in Carrara, he married Vittoria, his lifelong partner. At that time, Sparapani divided his time between his laboratory and studio located in Avenza, on Via Farini, opposite the Castruccio Castracani Tower, and teaching at the Free School of Nude Sculpture at the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts. His numerous group exhibitions began in 1953: the Interprovincial Exhibitions of the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts, the Carrara Biennales, the European Quadrennials, the Florence National Art and Sport Exhibitions, the Trieste International Biennales, the Genoa National Bronze and Sculpture Exhibitions, exhibitions at the Palazzo Strozzi and the Circolo degli Artisti-Casa di Dante in Florence, as well as the Tuscan Art and Sculpture Biennales in Arezzo. He also participated in numerous national and international competitions, which he often won. In 1960, he won first prize in the competition for the sculptural group intended for the tomb of Lorenzo Viani, which he executed in marble the following year. His works are featured in several Italian museums; notably in Florence, in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, and in Orticaia, in the province of Pisa, in the church of San Michele degli Scalzi. Many of his works are in private collections, and numerous monuments adorn the Italian landscape, among which the Monument to the Boys of '99 in Bassano del Grappa (1973) and the Monument to the Quarryman in Colonnata (1983) are the most impressive. In his adopted city of Avenza, which he deeply cherished, he was actively involved in artistic life and.
