He immediately began his professional activity within his father's firm. He mainly focused on the theme of the home and habitation. He quickly established himself as an important figure in Milan's nascent design industry, developing an extremely expressive and absolutely unique language. By the late 1940s, he participated in several editions of the Triennale di Milano and, in 1956, became one of the founding members of ADI, the Association for Industrial Design. He collaborated with major companies, and his works can be found in several permanent collections of the world's most important museums. Between 1998 and 2003, he designed for FontanaArte the Ananas and Bruco wall lights, the Margaret table lamp, and the Morocco pendant light. He was awarded four Compasso d'Oro: for the Eclisse lamp, for the Atollo lamp, and for the Maralunga armchair, as well as the Compasso d'Oro for his career (1995). This renowned designer was also a prolific architect. Among his most significant architectural works are the Torre al Parco, via Revere (Milan, 1953-56, with Franco Longoni), the towers of Piazza Aquileia (Milan, 1962-64), the Arosio house (Arenzano, 1958), the town hall of Cusano Milanino (1966-69), and the Milano-San Felice district (1966-69, with Luigi).
