Antique rococo-style hand candlestick in bronze or brass

Vintage hand-held candlestick in bronze or brass, with a rich Rococo-style decoration. The scalloped tray features relief work of foliage, scrolls, and small flowers, bordered by openwork scrolls. The socket, shaped like a fluted vase with a wavy collar, rests in the centre of the tray. The elegantly curved side handle ends in a leaf motif, and the whole piece rests on four small feet with scrolls. The Rococo style, which originated in France under Louis XV in the 18th century, is characterised by its asymmetrical lines, curves, and nature-inspired motifs — shells, acanthus leaves, flowers. It experienced a significant revival in the second half of the 19th century, a period that is characteristic of this type of candlestick. The patina of the metal, with warm tones and slightly greenish-grey areas, attests to its age and gives it all its charm. An object that is both decorative and functional, ideal for a bedside table, a fireplace, or a desk.
