Superb and rare square mirror, made of carved oak, produced in Brittany in the first half of the 20th century. In the Breton Art Deco style, it fits within the aesthetic of the Seiz Breur movement, a trend that emerged in the 1920s in Brittany. This movement brought together artists and craftsmen eager to renew decorative arts by drawing inspiration from Breton traditions while modernising them with stylised and refined forms. The frame of this mirror is a beautiful illustration of this: the carved motifs, repetitive and rhythmic, evoke organic and symbolic shapes, typical of this quest for a decorative language that is both rooted and contemporary. The woodwork highlights artisanal craftsmanship, with slightly rounded volumes and reliefs that capture the light.
