Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola (1871-1950) Portrait of his wife, Marie-Thérèse Pierat. Signed at the top left. Oil on canvas. The intensity and unique character of this portrait immediately reveal an intimate connection between the painter and his subject. I would like to thank Mr Wassenaar for the comprehensive information he provided me. He drew my attention to a pastel version of this portrait dating from 1916, published in the magazine L'Œuvre in 1922. It is also worth mentioning the personality of the model. Marie-Thérèse Pierat (1883-1934) was a very famous theatre actress in her time. This painting demonstrates Guirand de Scévola's extraordinary talent as a portraitist.
