Magnificent and iconic ASC1 table lamp from the AM/AS series by Franco Albini, Franca Helg, and Antonio Piva for Sirrah. Italy 1960s. A collector's piece, an icon of Italian design. Chromed metal structure. The T-shaped base provides great stability. It features a curved arm, shaped like a semi-ring. This supports a beautiful diffuser made of opaline Murano glass. Albini: Franco Albini, born in Robbiate (Como) in 1905, is one of the leading figures of the rationalist movement in the fields of architectural creation, furniture, industrial design, and museum layout. After graduating as an architect from the Politecnico di Milano in 1929, he collaborated with the Ponti and Lancia studios. His involvement in the editing of the magazine Casabella also plays a fundamental role in the development of his thought, marking his definitive conversion to rationalism, of which he becomes a spokesperson in the Italian cultural landscape. When he opens his first professional studio in Milan in 1931, he begins to focus on social housing and continues in this field after the war, thanks to the opportunities offered by reconstruction, in collaboration with Franca Helg from 1952. During the 1940s, Albini develops his collaboration with Cassina, a company for which he designs several chairs, already precursors of his stylistic conception. He will continue this activity with other companies in the sector such as Poggi. Milan and Genoa represent the geographical axis on which Albini leaves his strongest mark. He indeed designs the layout of the stations of line 1 of the Milan metro (1962).
