It was very popular in the united states. It is considered naïve art or folk art. These are small pieces of wood, mainly from boxes of cigars or transport crates, placed in layers with noted edges. Much like the principle of making short spikes, objects were made with salvaged materials. This art was popular between the 1870s and 1940s. The "tramp art" objects were made at home, the artists were part of the working class and also farmers. Women and children also indulged. Despite the name "tramp art, " the people who used this art form were not vagrants or beggars, as the name may imply.
