Description
Don shoemaker was a unique mid-century modern furniture designer. Born in nebraska and educated at the art institute of chicago, he moved to mexico soon after and started a furniture factory, senal, in the late 1950s. His most famous design, the sling swinger chair, uses mexican hardwood that resembles rosewood. The base and frame are fixed, while the seat is only connected to the leather strap backrest and hinged to the side frames, allowing the seat to swing back and forth as desired. Condition: the thin wood chips that were used to hold the wooden pegs in place have disappeared from the base. The black leather sling backrest and the black seat cushion have a beautiful patina.
