A striking set of four vintage swivel dining chairs

A striking set of four vintage swivel dining chairs attributed to Rudi Verelst for Novalux, Belgium, dating from the 1970s. These sculptural armchairs combine a beautifully proportioned chromed steel wire frame with generous black skai leather upholstery, creating the characteristic Space Age aesthetic associated with Belgian design of the period. The open wire construction gives the chairs a light, almost floating appearance, while the broad upholstered armrests, generously padded seat and curved backrest provide a comfortable and supportive seating experience. Each chair is mounted on an elegant white lacquered metal trumpet base and features a 360-degree swivel mechanism, making them particularly functional around a dining table while retaining their strong sculptural presence. The combination of black upholstery, polished chrome wirework and contrasting white pedestal bases is especially striking. The design has a distinctly futuristic, architectural character and sits comfortably within a Belgian Mid-Century Modern / Space Age interior, while also working beautifully in more eclectic contemporary settings. The chairs show authentic signs of age and use. The black skai upholstery has a pleasing vintage appearance with some minor surface wear consistent with age. The white metal pedestal bases show visible wear and small losses to the white finish, particularly around the edges; these could be touched up if desired. The chrome wire frames remain attractive and retain their original character. A highly decorative and relatively rare set of vintage Belgian design chairs, ideal around a dining table, conference table or as distinctive occasional armchairs. Designer: Rudi Verelst.
