Very interesting old painting executed in oil (knife technique) on panel depicting a port, presumably from the south of France. This painting is clearly sold as attributed (no expertise having been carried out). The signature on the work remains unclear and difficult to read (see the close-up photo). The work is nevertheless signed, and there is a handwritten attribution on the back to "Gagliardini": the style, technique, age, and theme could suggest the work of Julien Gustave GAGLIARDINI (1846-1927), a well-documented artist (record sale over 10, 000 euros and a view of the Côte d'Azur sold in 2019 for 4, 000 euros). An old label affixed to the back possibly locates the work in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat (Alpes-Maritimes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region). Good state of preservation considering the age of the work. The paint layer is healthy; a light cleaning could give this painting an extra brightness, the panel having warped slightly (slightly convex). The frame is included. Dimensions of the panel: 30 / 36 cm, with frame: 48 / 56 cm.
