Pair of Large Brass Altar Candlesticks with Baluster Shaft and Tripod Base

Each candlestick features a vigorously turned brass shaft with balusters, rings, and stacked bands, topped with a wide moulded drip tray that holds its original iron spike intended to secure the candle. The triangular base, layered with strong mouldings, rests on three small feet, a classic silhouette of altar furnishings. These candlesticks are part of the art of the 18th-century founder-brassworker, who supplied churches and chapels with turned brass fittings. Removed from their liturgical context, they are now valued as high-period objects, with their bold turning and golden patina complementing all interiors.
