ADOLPHE DETEIX (Amplepuis, 1892-1967) Flowers in a Blue Vase. Circa 1930. Oil on panel. 32 x 27 cm (panel) 44 x 39 cm (frame) Signed lower left: DETEIX Adolphe Deteix is, in my opinion, the finest Lyon painter of the 1920s and 1930s. Born in Amplepuis, in the Loire region, 70 km north of Lyon, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Although living in Paris, he always maintained a strong connection with the Lyon region. In fact, the original frame of this painting, dating from the 1930s, bears the label of a Lyon framer and therefore comes from a Lyon collection. Roger de Piles would have described Deteix as the perfect painter because he excelled in all genres (history, portraits, landscapes, flowers). He wasn't just a specialist in flowers per se, but his flower paintings are truly magnificent.
