RARE: authentic and antique large wooden harvest basket / slatted chestnut wood basket handmade - spikes and staples - chestnut wood handle - years 1900-1940. Dimensions: 63.5 X 39.5 cm - height with handle: 34.5 cm - height without handle: approximately 22.5 cm / weight 1.450 kg. Good vintage condition: signs of use - rust on the small spikes - numerous insect holes - usage stains - the handle and some slats have natural breaks and have been reinforced with wood glue. Overall, it remains very sturdy. Cleaned and treated against wood insects and rubbed with linseed oil to preserve its patina, it is left in its natural colour. My photographs were taken before rubbing the basket with linseed oil: therefore, the colour is darker but still remains natural. Please take this into account. Multiple uses for this large basket once used in French farms for field harvest work: beets, Jerusalem artichokes... For farm animals, for collecting apples, potatoes... These large baskets, once present in every farm in the French countryside, are extremely rare to find: most having been destroyed or burned. Today, this one, with its old-world charm, will serve you well in the garden (harvesting vegetables, picking flowers...), for various storage, or as an original rustic decoration as a plant pot, for storing books, bottles...
