Charlotte Perriand originally designed the chair in 1927 for her own Paris apartment. Shortly afterwards, the design was incorporated into the joint furniture programme of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. The construction is as simple as it is precise: a chrome-plated tubular steel frame supports the continuous upholstered seat and backrest, giving the chair a remarkable presence despite its compact proportions. The combination of chrome and black leather has since become one of the characteristic material combinations of classical modernism. Behind this formal clarity stands Charlotte Perriand as an independent designer. Even as a young woman, she developed a distinctly modern vision of how people should live. In a world of architecture and design still largely dominated by men, she established her own position early on and became one of the defining figures of modern furniture design. The LC7 exemplifies this attitude: independent, precise and self-confident. This is an essential part of the chair’s appeal. It embodies not only the aesthetics of modernism, but also the design philosophy of a woman who forged her own path and pursued it consistently. Almost a century after its creation, the chair therefore possesses not only a strong formal presence, but also a particular historical dimension. The example offered here was manufactured by Cassina in Italy and bears the serial number 16262. According to our research, this example can be attributed to Cassina production from the 1990s.
