Cod 0911. Italian painting from the mid-17th century. High quality oil on canvas depicting a well-known biblical episode, lot and his daughters. Abraham's nephew had saved two angels from the clutches of the city's inhabitants and they warned him to flee before god's punishment fell on sodom and gomorrah. On the left we find the city in flames while lot's wife is transformed into a pillar of salt for having contravened the order not to look back. The two beautiful daughters decide to get their father drunk and from their mischievous looks we can guess what will happen next. In fact, fearing they are the last surviving humans and in order not to lose their lineage, they lie with their father without his knowledge. A painting of notable pictorial quality, particularly evident in the refinement of the chromatic palette, in the masterful use of the chiaroscuro technique as well as the extreme elegance of the draperies. The author is to be found in the circle or among the followers of pietro da cortona (1597-1669), lacking authentication. Among the greatest interpreters of the baroque, he worked mainly between rome and florence. He created a sumptuous and allegorical decorative style called "cortonism" where he combined classical antiquity with perspective illusionism. Finely carved and gilded 19th century frame, with some signs of aging. Artwork already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. It has some color losses in the lower part (see photo), overall in good condition. Sight size h 86 X w 117 cm.
