Rio rosewood (dalbergia negra) is a plant of the dalbergia genus in the papilionaceae family. This endangered species grows wild in the brazilian atlantic forest in particular. The peak of its exploitation occurred in the second half of the 19th century with the development of wood veneer. The trade in rio rosewood, a victim of its overexploitation, is now banned for all specimens cut after 1992.
