Set of 4 deep stoneware plates with very pretty enameling in brown, green, gray and blue tones. Beautiful craftsmanship for both the turning and the enamelling. These plates are all signed by maurice pitot, a renowned belgian ceramist (1926 – 2010) based in chatelineau in belgium. He used sandstone from bouffioulx, a small town nearby nicknamed “city of pottery”. His signature seems to have evolved a lot over time, so I would date these plates from the 60s or 70s, but without certainty. Although we find his ceramics in well-known sales catalogs, at “pierre bergé and associates” in particular, we find relatively little information on maurice pitot himself, but I would be delighted to learn more about him, in particular why he signed “pitot p” so don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any. These plates are in very good condition, no cracks, no chips, perhaps tiny chips, but it seems to me more like they are original, tiny bubbles burst in the enameling. Some have blisters and reliefs, obviously original. They are not exactly identical in terms of dimensions, their diameter is approximately 18 cm and the height varies between 5 and 5.6 cm.
