Beautiful rectangular oak wardrobe with two doors (solid structure and veneered panels) from the 1945-50 period, part of the emergency furniture sold to victims of World War II during reconstruction. Initially varnished, it has been thoroughly cleaned, sanded, and then re-coated with a matte clear varnish before being protected with wax. With a universally suitable depth, it offers ample storage capacity with its four adjustable shelves that have been painted black. Two front doors with simple moldings that lock with their keys (two different models). Height 195 cm x width 115 cm x depth 45 cm. Mounted on tapered legs, it is stable, robust, and functional. Its ingenious assembly system with only eight screws allows you to disassemble it on-site if needed. A piece of furniture rich in history! Visible signs of time: patina and natural wear. For your information 😉: René Gabriel, born in Maisons-Alfort on September 14, 1899, and died in Paris on October 30, 1950, was a French designer specializing in mass-produced furniture. In 1944, for his knowledge of industrial methods for producing economical furniture, René Gabriel was appointed by the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning, which entrusted him with the responsibility of creating emergency furniture sold to victims at a symbolic price. Subsequently, he was appointed President of the Society of Decorative Artists. In tribute to his significant role in design, the Salon des Arts Ménagers created the famous René Gabriel prize. The simplicity of his furniture remains a source of inspiration even today.
