Antique folding wall shelf with a Japonisme style, estimated dating from around 1880–1910. Made of lacquered papier-mâché, it features an elegant scalloped silhouette. It combines a drop-down shelf with a crescent-shaped mirror. The cloudy red and black background is enlivened by a polychrome floral decoration with golden outlines. Flowering branches, buds, and foliage unfold across the panel and console. An insect with outstretched wings completes this delicate composition. In the centre, the bevelled glass mirror takes the shape of a crescent moon. The shelf with a golden border rests on an articulated central support. The mechanism allows the entire piece to be folded; two upper holes ensure suspension. Period: late 19th–early 20th century, around 1880–1910. Japonisme decoration, characteristic of the taste for the Far East in interiors of this period. Dimensions: height 33 cm; width approximately 25 cm. In good antique condition, with a cracked patina, signs of use, and minor surface wear and edge wear. Mirror very well preserved.
