Exotic vase in carved wood

Period: ca. 1970. This decorative piece is very large and hand carved with exotic floral motifs and geometric foliage. It is possibly a kind of altar torch instead of a vase (the size of the hole does not really allow to place flowers in it). The color of the wood is warm. I do not know what wood it is. Condition: no damage. One of the edges has a notch, but this clearly dates back to the time when it was made, since it has the same color as the surrounding wood (see photo). Dimensions: see photo.
