Art Nouveau platter, gilded brass, Zolberg Brothers, Poland, 19th century

An Art Nouveau platter, made in the Warsaw workshop of the Zolberg Brothers at the end of the 19th century, is an example of Polish metalwork from the Art Nouveau era. Formed from plated and gilded brass, it features an asymmetrical line and two openwork handles integrated into the wavy rim. The centre of the composition features a relief of a woman's face with long, flowing hair and flowers, surrounded by fluid, plant-like ornaments. The dominant colour is warm, rich gold with a delicate patina, sometimes turning into a matte-satin sheen. The sharpness of the details and the smooth transitions between decorative motifs are clearly marked. The surface has minor scratches, slight discolouration and subtle wear to the gilding on the protrusions, confirming the authenticity and age of the object. The construction remains solid, with no cracks or major dents, and the handles blend smoothly into the whole. Preserved in very good condition, with only minor signs of use typical of the late 19th century. The form of this platter seems to whisper the story of the Belle Époque; it tells of a time when applied art focused on the sensuality of lines and organic inspirations from nature. The relief of a woman's face, wrapped in gold and flowers, evokes the atmosphere of spiritual quests and fascination with the world of nature, characteristic of the late 19th century. The metal seems to flow, as if coming alive in the rhythm of Art Nouveau motifs, and every detail quietly reminds us of the refined taste of old Warsaw salons. The platter can be displayed on a console in the living room or library, where it will become a subtle historical accent. It is worth combining it with a wooden chest of drawers from the era or a marble top, as well as with other Art Nouveau objects – for example, coloured glass vases or candlesticks with organic shapes. It will also work well as a single, collector's item in an eclectic interior, where the gilding and relief will draw attention to the nobility of the material and the craftsmanship.
