Marcel giraud fruit bowl, dit cardelle – vallauris (1937) glazed ceramic fruit bowl, in a monochrome of white and gray, in the “fat lava” style by marcel giraud known as “cardelle”, from vallauris, 1937. Marked vallauris and signed intaglio on the reverse. Marcel giraud was born in 1937 in vallauris, france. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter in the studio of blaise rubino. He subsequently worked in several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960, creating mainly utilitarian objects. Since 1975, giraud has taken up painting and sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals, and other decorative objects in his retirement.
