Vallauris, Marius Bessone, rare ceramic turtle, flower holder.

Vallauris, Marius Bessone, rare ceramic turtle, flower holder. A rare and unique ceramic sculpture in the shape of a turtle, designed as a flower holder by the famous ceramist Marius Bessone. Marius Bessone (1929–2001) worked in Vallauris—often in collaboration with his wife, Huguette—during the 1950s and 1960s. His work is distinguished by a bold and geometric style (brutalist-inspired), associated with unique glazing techniques, characteristic of decorative ceramics from southern France in the mid-20th century. This characteristic style is perfectly illustrated by this ceramic turtle. The piece is coated with a superb creamy glaze, a matte grayish-white, enhanced with brown hues. The turtle bears a complete signature on its base: "M. Bessone, Vallauris, Handmade." Dimensions: length 27.5 cm, width 21 cm, height 6 cm. Weight: 1.9 kg. Condition: In good condition, with some slight imperfections related to age ("tiny chips") on the underside (see photos). Overall, a magnificent piece and an exceptional find for a collector.
