Small Accolay jug in glazed ceramic, circa 1955–1965. A beautiful hand-turned piece featuring very vibrant glazing in ash pink and deep turquoise shades. The ribbed body, slightly tapered shape, and freely shaped spout recall the most spontaneous productions from the early days of Accolay. The base bears a handwritten signature “Accolay” accompanied by an old emblem partially visible under the glaze, very close to the first logo used by the workshop on its brochures from the 1950s. A particularly interesting detail that reinforces the attribution and places the piece in the early decades of production of the Accolay ceramics collective. The Potters of Accolay, based in Yonne after the war, developed a free and experimental ceramics style that became emblematic of the revival of French pottery in the 1950s and 60s. In good vintage condition, with some irregularities and small original glaze accidents. There is a visible firing line under the glaze at the neck, appearing more related to the firing process and material tensions than to an evolving crack. Height 16 cm, length of spout handle 14 cm, maximum diameter 10 cm, base diameter 5.5 cm, estimated capacity 60 cl. Deep glaze shades that catch the light with a true sculptural presence.
