Decorative Plate – Paulette Quinson – Moustiers-style Bérain decoration – hand-painted earthenware – c. 1950. Description. Hand-painted earthenware wall plate by Paulette Quinson (Marseille), decorated with a "small figure with a feathered hat, " insects, and floral scrolls, in the tradition of Moustiers earthenware (green/manganese palette). Stylized "bird" monogram of the artist on the reverse (Paulette Quinson monogram). Scalloped rim highlighted with a green line. Original holes for hanging (old string present). Details. Artist/Workshop: Paulette Quinson (monogram on the reverse) Paulette Quinson (Marseille, 1899-1984), from a prominent bourgeois family. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, she worked at the Saint-Jean-du-Désert pottery factory before opening her own workshop (rue Picpus) in 1924, complete with its own kiln. She specialized in earthenware inspired by antique styles (Moustiers, Veuve Perrin, SJD, Strasbourg, and "Chinese" designs) and forged connections with Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. During and after the war, her pieces were highly sought after (commissions from the Maire company; a bourgeois clientele). Signature: Her original creations are signed "Paulette Quinson"; her replicas of antique pieces bear a monogram in the shape of a finch (a play on "quinson"). Period: circa 1945–1960. Material: earthenware. Technique: green and manganese monochrome decoration, hand-painted highlights, glossy lead glaze. Diameter: 25 cm. Weight: ≈ 500 g. Colors: green, manganese brown, creamy white. Condition. Very good overall condition. A small chip on the rim (see close-up), minimal wear consistent with age and occasional micro-cracking of the glaze, nothing structural. No visible cracks or repairs. Clean back, clear monogram. Remarks: Hand-painted piece (intentional variations in color), not mass-produced. Perfect as a decorative plate or wall decoration.
