Antique Indian Wooden Cupboard

An excellent and very unique wooden cupboard from Rajasthan. It’s a special and most unusual piece. The design and various details suggest that it was most likely to have served as a home Hindu shrine. The top section is ‘galleried’, with a turned spindle detail. It has glass front doors, a lower, drop down, glass door and a side door with a lovely little original padlock, still attached. Inside, there are two small slung shelves, which could possibly have stored incense. It is solidly constructed from attractively ebonised timber and is obviously a piece of some quality and was highly valued by the household that had it made. A rare find.
