Jozef Mees, Lyrical Abstract Oil on Panel 1962

Lyrical abstract composition by Belgian artist Jozef Mees , Belgium, 1962, executed in oil on panel. Mees belonged to the generation that helped shape post-war Belgian lyrical abstraction, developing a painterly language built around colour, texture and layered surface rather than geometric order or perspective. Executed in richly textured oil paint with strong colour contrasts and a flattened spatial construction characteristic of Mees' work from the 1960s. Signed and dated lower right, 1962. Preserved in excellent condition and professionally presented in a dark wood shadow box frame. A carefully structured work from Mees' mature period within post-war Belgian lyrical abstraction.
