Impressionist painting attributed to F-G Engler, oil on canvas, romantic seascape.
Romantic landscape, sunrise between sea and mountains. Hello. I present an oil on canvas in the Impressionist style, depicting a picturesque coastal scene likely inspired by Europe. This work, in perfect condition and signed ENGLER, dates from the late 19th century and could be attributed to Friedrich Georg ENGLER (1877-1905). This very poetic marine landscape represents a small cove extending inland, where two fishing boats can shelter from the gaze of others. It features a lively scene with two small figures walking along the paths of a village of fishermen's houses. There is also laundry on a makeshift line, bright, imposing, and colorful mountains with beautiful reliefs, and finally, towards the distant horizon, small pleasure boats that do not dare approach the shore, thus showing a beautiful depth under a stormy sky typical of seaside areas. The artist uses a classic perspective with cliffs rising to the right, balanced by the opening to the marine horizon on the left where two small sailboats can be seen in the distance. The light seems to be that of a sunset. The golden and ochre tones on the cliffs contrast with the grayish blues of the sky and the turquoise greens of the water. The brushwork is quite free with impasto on the rocks, typical of an oil painting on canvas created towards the end of the 19th century. Frame dimensions: 52 cm x 39.5 cm. Artwork dimensions: 46 cm x 33 cm. The canvas has been lined and cleaned by a professional. A satin anti-UV varnish (Sennelier) has been applied according to the rules of the art. An old, very sturdy frame has been resized (glued, nailed, and stapled). The work is in perfect condition and the whole is ready to be hung. See photo for appraisal by an auctioneer from Catawiki. Very serious seller.
