Art Deco lamp Roberts & Belk, silver plated, 1920`s ca, English

This original vintage art deco lamp has been made by renown english silversmiths roberts & belk around the 1920`s/1930`s. The firm had a long reputable history making quality silver & silver plated objects. They were involved in furnishing the ocean liner queen mary in 1936 in the art deco style. The lamp is marked inside the base r & b with the aladdin lamp trade mark plus stamped the item number 8821. The "romney plate sheffield made" mark is stamped on the outside. Timeless with its elegant sculptural geometrical form, modernist lines & delicate proportions. It works well as a desk, entrance, table or bedside lamp. It would make an elegant & glamorous addition to a range of interiors such as art deco, traditional, mid-century, hollywood regency, or contemporary. Looking from the bottom, the modernist geometric design has a plain panelled octagonal form onto a spreading octagonal foot, with queen anne style influences. The silver plated base sits on the original octagonal black painted wood base. Underneath the lamp base is padded with new black felt to protect the furniture below. The lamp`s body elongates from the foot in a fluted form, repeating the geometric octagonal pattern, adding multiple reflections, with pierced decoration along the sides towards the top end. An octagonal domed cover with concave panels leads to the neck and the lampholder. A new silver tone metal lampholder with cover has been fitted, complementing the overall look of the lamp. Two removable silver metal rings secure the lampshade. This lamp is finished with a quality vintage screw on lampshade of exceptional quality & great presence, probably from the 1940`s/50`s, which is a work of art on its own. A sculptural shade made of 4 convex & 4 concave alternating panels, complementing the octagonal shape of the silver plated base. Made of parchment textured paper simulating marble, with gold dust applied on the wrinkles/veins. A silver metal effect trim is present on the convex sides.
