Magnificent authentic engraving 155 years old, not a simple reproduction. Subject: Poisonous plants. • Edition: between 1860 and 1870. • Size: 42 X 32 cm. • Elegant vintage cream-white paper. • The plate is a double page with a slight fold in the centre. • Condition: very good, some usual signs of age, central fold barely visible. This plate comes from a 19th-century educational botanical atlas, designed for teaching through direct observation and illustrated with finely executed chromolithographs. The work brings together precise representations of plants, combining scientific accuracy with aesthetic quality. It is a testament to the dissemination of naturalist knowledge aimed at a broad educated public, embodying the didactic ambition and visual rigor characteristic of major scientific publications of its time. This magnificent plate features four species of toxic plants with great attention to botanical detail. On the left, the Four-leaved Paris displays its large characteristic leaves and its spike of blue flowers. In the centre, the Monkshood reveals its helmet-shaped flowers of deep blue. On the right, the Black Henbane showcases its white flowers veined with purple and its lobed leaves, accompanied by the intoxicating Ryegrass with its slender spikes. • Find all my lithographs and prints in my shop. • Send me a message for any questions. • Fast delivery and careful packaging for a risk-free reception. • For a bulk purchase, send me a message for a single shipping fee and to discuss a discount. Reference: 113-1-3. Texts inscribed on the engraving: POISONOUS PLANTS. A) the Four-leaved Paris (Paris quadrifolia). B) the Monkshood (Aconitum Napellus). C) the Black Henbane (Hyoscyamus niger). D) the Intoxicating Ryegrass (Lolium temulentum). --- Decoration, vintage, ryegrass, monkshood, toxic, poisonous, poisoning. Aconit, parisette, henbane. This plate presents a naturalistic and scientific style, typical of 19th-century botanical illustrations. The chromolithography technique offers vivid and precise colours, particularly remarkable in the deep blues of the monkshood and the subtle shades of the other plants. The faithful rendering of morphological details reflects a rigorous pedagogical approach, characteristic of natural history atlases of the time.
